Counseling focused
on symptom reduction, finding clarity and resolution.
I use a variety of techniques to help my
clients explore and address the issues that keep them from
reaching their goals. I am very eclectic in my approach
to the varying issues clients come to therapy with, depending
on the needs and focus of the individual or family. While
I use a great deal of Cognitive Therapy techniques, I also
utilize techniques from Gestalt, Humanistic, Rational Emotive,
Behavioral and Client Centered Therapies.
I believe that the relationship
between client and therapist is crucial to creating the environment
needed for growth. A
partnership is critical for therapy to be a success.
Some of the issues I have worked with in my
practice include anxiety, depression, goal clarification, improved
listening skills, healthy expression of thoughts and feelings,
coping with loss, struggling with identity and providing support
as clients go through changes in life circumstances. Individual
therapy can often provide the support needed to find healthy
ways to cope, make changes needed to live healthier lives or
learn to manage mood issues, marital difficulty, or other challenges.
I enjoy working with children and adolescents,
in conjunction with or separately from family therapy. Often
children and adolescents struggle with the changes in expectations,
social stressors, increased expectations, identity confusion,
family changes, personal challenges or difficult histories. The
focus is often on increasing insight into the issues they are
facing, learning to express thoughts and feelings in a healthy
and constructive manner. All of this with an emphasis
on finding ways to cope and gaining the skills needed to help
them throughout their lives. |
